Lincoln, his son Bobby and daughter in law Shirley were all killed in a head on automobile crash on the way back from picking Bobby up from commencement at Fort Bliss. The other driver, another airman who (according to news article) had been on temporary duty at another base apparently fell asleep at the wheel and swerved into oncoming traffic, killing himself, three other airmen in the car and the Creppons.
